Two Sauce Boats

attributed to Bernt Wolffsen, 1718 - 1719

These double-lipped sauce boats were specifically designed for pouring sauce or gravy. They feature two handles positioned at right angles to the bowl. This model was first created in France and was later adopted by Dutch silversmiths. The family coats of arms of Nicolaas Hans Willem van Delen tot Schonenburg and Margaretha van Wijhe van Echteld are engraved on the sides.

    Sauskom, ovaal, tuiten aan de uiteinden en geribde oren bevestigd aan het midden der beide zijden. Langs de gegolfde bovenrand een opgelegd profiel, waaronder het gekroonde alliantiewapen Van Delen-Van Wijhe in graveerwerk, bestaande uit twee ovale schilden: 1 op een dwarsbalk twee omgewende zwijnskoppen; 2 een klimmende leeuw in een veld bezaaid met blokken.
