Twee identieke modellen van een kettingstopper tussen twee dekken, bestaande uit een glijbaan voor de ketting op een klos en doorlopend door het bakboord kluisgat, en een zware duivelsklauw hangend aan een klos aan de scheepswand. Een houten ketting met namaakgewicht is aan het model toegevoegd. Schaal 1:10 (schatting).

Explanatory note

  • Deze kettingstopper diende om die in de hoek van het grootluik te vervangen. Luitenant Bechameil werd voor deze uitvinding met een promotie in de Franse Marine beloond.

Entry

Two almost identical models of a stopper between two decks, consisting of a slide for the chain on a chock continuing through the port hawsehole, and a heavy claw stopper hanging from a chock against the side of the ship. A brace secures the chain and is set with a clip, which is fastened by means of a tackle hanging from the deckhead. A wooden chain with a dummy weight is added to one of the models.

Only one model number 619 has been mentioned in Obreen’s catalogue,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 619. but three were found carrying the same number (NG-MC-619-1 and NG-MC-619-2), of which two are also almost identical. The third is identical to the Obreen’s description of number 621,2J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 621. and is now inventoried as model NG-MC-621.

This stopper replaced the one at the corner of the cable hatch. The inventor, the French Lieutenant Béchamiel, was rewarded with a promotion in the French Navy for this design.3J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 619.
