Two chandeliers

anonymous, c. 1700 - c. 1725

In addition to furniture, André-Charles Boulle also made other objects in gilt-bronze, for example this sort of chandelier. Whether these two came from his workshop is not known. It is also possible that they were made by another craftsman influenced by his style. Gilt chandeliers with candles heightened the luxurious and festive atmosphere of a room.

  • Description

    Verguld bronzen kroon met zes armen. De stam is geleed. Aan het verdikte cylindervormige gedeelte zijn de armen bevestigd, voortkomend uit consoles, die afwisselend een mannen- en vrouwenkop dragen, waartussen een schelpmotief. De armen bestaan uit twee tegengestelde C-voluten, versierd met bladmotieven. De verdikking bovenaan de stam vertoont drie vrouwenborstbeelden, uitlopend in consoles, waartussen kinderkopjes. De stam heeft een vaasvormige bekroning en eindigt in een acanthusblad met eikels. Zie nr.b.
