Wedding dress with skirt embellished with glass bead pendants

Lina de Goede, 1882

The Amsterdam born and bred Henriëtte van Cleef married in 1882. The seamstress made this lavish wedding dress for her, which incorporates various techniques. The sleeves are entirely ruffled. The silk along the collar, the front panels, the hem of the skirt and train, and at the cuffs is frayed. The front of the skirt is partly draped, while the train has been ruffled around a central seam and is edged by a folded border.

    Trouwjapon van witte satijn, 'robe princesse'. Het lijfje, dat aan de voorzijde gesloten wordt, is nauwsluitend en verloopt in een schoot, die van voren als draperie is opengevouwen en die van achter in geplooide slippen eindigt. Het kraagje is opstaand en smal. De mouwen zijn driekwart lang, glad aangezet, nauw en geheel gefronseld. De lange rok, die zeer nauw gesnoerd kan worden, is aan de voorzijde glad en versierd met trosjes matglazen kralen, terwijl de achterzijde door verticale rimpelingen en plooien tot een queue is opgedoft, die overgaat in een afgeronde sleep. Kraagje, sluiting en rokzoom zijn afgezet met een brede ruche van uitgerafeld satijn.
