Toilet Box on Stand

Meissener Porzellan Manufaktur, c. 1730

The delicate shape of this toilet box on a stand is inspired by lacquerware boxes from Japan. The decorations too are copies of scenes often depicted in Japanese lacquerware and porcelain. In 1927, when their collection was catalogued, Margarethe and Franz Oppenheimer owned the box but not the stand. A few years later, they succeeded in bringing together the two pieces.

  • Description

    Toiletdoos met deksel, op een onderstel, van beschilderd porselein. Doos en onderstel hebben de vorm van een vijfpas. Het deksel is beschilderd met een dansende vrouw tussen twee staande en twee zittende figuren. Boven en onder de voorstelling langs de rand zijn wolken, rotsen, een boom en een bloemtak geschilderd. Op de wand zijn bloemtakken geschilderd en op het plat en de poten van het onderstel korenschoven en bloemen. De toiletdoos en onderstel zijn gemerkt.
