The Potato Eaters

Vincent van Gogh (mentioned on object), 1885-04-16

In addition to being a painter and a draughtsman, Van Gogh was also a printmaker. He drew this depiction of an early version of The Potato Eaters from memory on the lithographic stone. Hoping to gain some recognition he pulled a series of prints from it. He also felt that by using a different medium he would draw fresh inspiration for the final painting.
