Portrait of Dr Gachet

Vincent van Gogh, 1890-06-15

This small print showcases Van Gogh’s skill in yet another printmaking process. Dr Gachet in Auvers, whom Van Gogh had been seeing after moving from the south of France, had an etching press. This tempted Van Gogh to try his hand at this difficult technique. It turned out to be a wonderful portrait of the doctor, but unfortunately it is the only etching he ever made.
