Chair

anonymous, c. 1720 - c. 1740

Although this chair clearly derives from an English model, it was surely made in the Netherlands. The design is somewhat heavy, with convex and concave shapes. The back is made of oak, but this cannot be seen because it is covered by a decorative veneer of other woods. This technique is called marquetry.
