Bedspread

anonymous, c. 1900 - c. 1915

This bedspread is decorated with embroidered flowers, plants and birds. Unlike the usual colourful Chinese embroidery, only white is used here. The bedspread was a wedding gift to the Dutch woman Theodora Leijh when she married Soedianto Notobroto, a Javanese prince, in 1916. The white embroidery was probably ordered especially for this occasion.
