Soprano Recorder

Engelbert Terton, c. 1720

Because of its relative simplicity, the recorder was played not only by professional musicians but also enjoyed remarkable success among amateur players. This elegant example was made by Engelbert Terton. Possibly born in France, Terton settled in Amsterdam where he became a leading Dutch woodwind instrument maker. The exquisite quality of the silver ornamentation makes this recorder unique.
