Dish with the Amsterdam city coat of Arms

Dishes decorated with Dutch provincial and city coats of arms were made in China in the beginning of the 18th century. In the centre of this dish are the arms of Amsterdam framed in a gate, a design most likely derived from the illustrated title page of a European book. The Chinese painter adapted the details at his own discretion.

  • Description

    Schotel van porselein, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw en op het glazuur blauw, rood, roze, groen, zwart en goud. Op het plat het wapen van Amsterdam geflankeerd door twee leeuwen en aan de onderzijde een banderol met het opschrift 'AMSTELDAM'. Het wapen staat in een poort met twee vrouwen (lange lijzen) op een sokkel tussen de halfzuilen. Op de wand servetwerk onderbroken door zes gelobde cartouches met waterdieren (vis, garnaal, krab). De rand met servetwerk met halve bloemrozetten onderbroken door zes gelobde cartouches met een pioen en insect. De schotel is gevat in een metalen montuur. Een chip in de rand. Oud label op de onderzijde met 'H. Mag/ Atlanta'. Wapenporselein met emailkleuren.
