Dish with the arms of the Pelgrom family

The Pelgrom family coat of arms is painted on the upper centre rim of the dish. It was part of a dinner service made for Jacob Pelgrom, a merchant who rose to become Director-General of Bengal (India).

    Schotel van porselein, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw. Op het plat een vogel op een rots bij bloeiende planten (pioen). Op de wand en rand afwisselend grote lotusranken en een gelobd cartouche met een gestileerde bloeiende plant. Hiertussen het wapen van de familie Pelgrom omgeven door acanthusbladeren en als helmteken een Aziatisch figuur. Wapenporselein in blauw-wit.

Explanatory note

  • Waarschijnlijk besteld door Jacob Pelgrom die in Bengalen carrière maakte (van 1689 tot 1708) en de laatste jaren van zijn leven in Batavia doorbracht (tot 1713). Pelgrom was verwant aan verschillende belangrijke families in Indië.
