Saucer-dish with a fish and floral scrolls

anonymous, c. 1400 - c. 1599

This superb plate is decorated with motifs in red and green enamels and gold on a cream ground. The fish in the centre, a carp feeding on water plants, is painted with such freedom and energy that it almost seems to be leaping out of the plate.

    Schotel van steengoed, beschilderd op het glazuur in rood, groen en goud. Op de voorzijde een medaillon met een vis (karper) tussen waterplanten. Om het medaillon een band met bloemmotieven. De wand met een band met bloemranken. De achterzijde met 'base chocolatée'.
