Dish with Jesus Suffering the Little Children to Come unto Him

Willem Jansz. Verstraeten, c. 1645 - c. 1660

The depiction on this charger is based on Dutch rather than Chinese imagery. This is because Willem Verstraeten, after a legal dispute with his son Gerrit, was no longer allowed to make ‘porcelain’ or faience with Chinese-style decorations. From then on, he produced European-style faience and concentrated on the technical refinement of his painted decoration.
