Just as in the Netherlands, earthenware imitations of Chinese porcelain were being produced in Portugal already in the early 17th century. These objects were exported to the Netherlands and, together with the genuine Chinese porcelain, were a source of inspiration for Dutch potters. Dishes like these, embellished with imaginary coats of arms, were even made especially for the Dutch and German market.

    Ronde schotel van blauw beschilderde faience, met een geschulpte rand. Op het plat is een fantasiewapen met helmteken en een uit bladeren bestaande mantel geschilderd. Het wapen is verticaal gedeeld: links een boom en rechts acht harten. De rand is verdeeld in vakken waarin afwisselend een bloemtak en een ruitvorm waarin een bloemtak is geschilderd. Op de achterkant zijn Chinese motieven geschilderd.
