after Eiraku Hozen, after Eiraku Hozen, c. 1800 - c. 1899

The surface of this dish imitates the carved ornamentation of monochrome Chinese lacquerwork, while the base is very colourfully decorated. This experimentation with contrast and surprising elements characterizes Kyoto pottery of the early years of the 19th century, as do the Chinese features associated with the China vogue at that time.

  • Description

    Onregelmatige gevormde, vierkante schaal van steengoed, bedekt met een rood glazuur[?] en beschilderd in groen, geel en zwart. De voorzijde met een rivierlandschap in reliëf met op de voorgrond een geleerde te paard gevolgd door twee bediendes. In de achtergrond een groep geleerden zittend aan de oever. In het water een bootje. Het landschap met bomen (pijnboom, bananenplant), bergen en rotsen. De achterzijde met karakusa-ranken tegen een gele achtergrond. Oud label op de onderzijde met 'W727'. Kyoyaki in navolging van rood lakwerk.
