The deity Izanagi appears on stage in the play Awaji. He and the female deity Izanami set foot on the island of Awaji, as the creators of the Japanese island empire. In the play he dances to laud Japan’s prosperity. He wears the short jacket of a court nobleman (kariginu). An example of this type of jacket is on view in the opposite display case.
