Diederik Baron van Leyden van Vlaardingen (1695-1764). Burgomaster of Leiden, with his Wife Sophia Dina de Rovere and their Sons Pieter, Jan en Adriaan Pompejus

The Van Leyden couple had thirteen children, five of whom survived to adulthood. Shortly after the birth
of their last child, Sophia Dina passed away. A year in the family home in Leiden. It is now on display in
the adjacent Gallery (1.2). Pieter Cornelis, depicted at the left in the painting, later assembled a large
collection of prints which became the foundation of the Rijksmuseum Print Room.
