A Round Tower and Buildings

Jacob Symonsz. Pynas, 1616

This drawing was long thought to have been made by Jacob’s older brother, Jan Pynas. The loose drawing style with a multitude of zigzag lines and dots, however, is more closely related to that of Jacob. It bears comparison, for instance, with his St Paul (also on view in this gallery). Similar buildings piled up on a steep rock feature frequently in the background of Jacob’s paintings.
