Ring with Table-cut Diamonds

anoniem, c. 1620 - c. 1650

This special ring was found by an amateur archaeologist with a metal detector in a meadow in the province of Noord-Holland. Until now, this type of ring was known only from 17th-century paintings, including Rembrandt’s 1634 portrait of Oopjen Coppit. It may have been an engagement ring, and was set with table-cut diamonds all around the band, three of which have been lost.
