Ring with a flintlock

anonymous, 1650 - 1670

This ring has a tiny, finely finished flintlock clamped between two pieces of rock crystal. Its function is unknown. The piece was probably made for a member of the Stadtholder’s family. It may have originally been fitted with a small barrel, which would have made it possible to shoot with the ring.

  • Description

    Tussen twee stukken geslepen bergkristal is een klein vuursteenslot geklemd. Het geheel is gemonteerd in een stalen zetting. De zetting heeft een uitsparing bij de staart en bovenop de haan. Deze uitsparing loopt vrij ver naar voren door en heeft ongeveer ter hoogte van het staalveer een ronde inkeping. De afwerking van het slotmechanisme is zeer zorgvuldig gedaan. Delen van de slotplaat zijn geblauwd en er zit een klein stukje vuursteen in de haan geklemd.
