De houding waarin het skelet is afgebeeld gaat terug tot: Vesalius, Andreas. De humani corporis fabrica libri septem (...). Bazel: Johannes Oporinus, 1543. De illustraties in dit werk worden toegeschreven aan Jan Stefan van Calcar. Latere geïllustreerde anatomische boeken grijpen vaak terug op het werk van Vesalius, zie bijvoorbeeld: Gracht, Jacob van der. Anatomie der wtterlicke deelen van het menschelick lichaem (...). Den Haag: Jacob van der Gracht, 1634. Tekening zit in een omslag met meerdere anatomische tekeningen, genummerd RP-T-1989-258 t/m RP-T-1989-289.
