This book by Jacob van Meurs describes and illustrates Dutch embassies in China. The chapter on religion contains engravings based on woodcuts of Chinese Buddhist sacred writings. These illustrations feature scenes of Buddha preaching. Here Buddha Shakyamuni is accompanied by Manjushri, Samantabhadra, and protectors of the dharma, the Buddhist doctrine.
