Landscape with Elms

Craven found most of his subjects close to home, namely on his own estate, Ashdown. He was one of the many well-to-do amateur photographers who held their own with professional colleagues in the 1850s. In addition to his family, Craven mostly photographed the trees on his estate. Given his background he must have been familiar with drawing and painting.
