Seventeen-year-old Ottavio Strada is portrayed in an unusual – allegorical – manner. He receives a cornucopia filled with ancient coins from Fortune, while turning away from a statue of Venus. The gold and silver signify not only his future riches, but also allude to his study of ancient coins, a pursuit in which he was trained by his father, the antiquary Jacopo Strada.

Description
Portret van Ottavio Strada (1549/50-1612) op 18-jarige leeftijd. Ontwerper voor edelsmeedkunst, miniaturist en oudheidkundige, zoon van Jacopo Strada, wiens portret in hetzelfde jaar door Titiaan is geschilderd. Kniestuk, staande naast een beeld van een vrouwelijk naakt. De personificatie van Fortuna daalt uit de hemel neer met een horen des overvloeds gevuld met geldstukken. Op de achtergrond een ruïne in een landschap.
