Portrait of Israel Silvestre
Gerard Edelinck (mentioned on object), after 1670 - before c. 1700
This portrait of the French printmaker and dealer Israel Silvestre was created when he became a member of the prestigious Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris. Gerard Edelinck engraved it with graceful lines, but Silvestre himself also contributed: he etched the view of the Pont Neuf beneath the portrait. Unusually, this impression is printed in reddish-brown ink.
