Plaque with the Raising of Lazarus

attributed to Penicaud, Jean (I), c. 1500 - c. 1525

Enamel is a mixture of molten glass that is applied to a metal support. Here the copper plate is provided with a layer of silver, which heightens the luminosity of the translucent enamel colour. Lazarus was brought back to life by Christ four days after his death. The onlookers hold their noses against the 0smell of his decomposing body.

Rechthoekige plaquette van koper, met een voorstelling in email van De opwekking van Lazarus. Centraal ligt Lazarus gekleed in lendendoek. Hij wordt twee mannen uit een graftombe geholpen. Links daarvan staat Jezus en rechts daarvan zijn twee vrouwen,de zussen Martha en Maria. In de achtergrond zijn nog meer mensen afgebeeld en een kerkgebouw.
