Lucien Gaillard, c. 1900

Lucien Gaillard was one of the leading Art Nouveau jewellery designers at the beginning of the 20th century. His entry at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris was awarded the Grand Prix. Reviewers of the Fair particularly praised the powerful naturalism as well as the asymmetry of Gaillard’s small silver objects, which were inspired by Japanese art.

    Het ronde doosje bestaat uit twee scharnierende delen, die in gesloten toestand niet van elkaar zijn te onderscheiden. Over de met houtnerven versierde ondergrond, zijn in een asymmetrisch patroon maretakken gedrapeerd. De ondergrond is grijs gepatineerd, het bladerenpatroon licht verguld.
