Getting started with the collection:
Suit: coat, breaches and waistcoat
anonymous, c. 1740 - c. 1765
The wide cuffs of this frock coat were in vogue in the early half of the 18th century. The faded fabric features a velvet floral pattern woven on a white ground. This material, with its small pattern, was designed for men. Often, as here, a whole suit would be made of the same fabric.
