Pair of plates bearing the arms of Amsterdam

anonymous, c. 1730 - c. 1740

In the 18th century, Chinese manufacturers developed a new pink enamel which became extremely popular. On these plates, the use of pink enamel decoration is fully developed, as the subtle nuances in the hues of the large flowers show. The porcelain is exceptionally thin. The back is completely covered in pink enamel, lending a warm glow to the translucent white porcelain.

Description
Bord van porselein, beschilderd op het glazuur in blauw, rood, roze, groen, geel, zwart en goud. Op het plat een medaillon met bloeiende planten (prunus, pioen, aster); daaromheen servetwerk doorlopend op de wand en rand, afgewisseld met vijf gelobde cartouches met bloeiende planten; een cartouche met het wapen van Amsterdam; de buitenwand is bedekt met een roze glazuur. Oud label op de onderzijde met '4a 1449/ Oriental plate from the Duke of Buckingham Collection'. Twee chips in de rand. Wapenporselein in famille rose met een ruby back.
