Getting started with the collection:
Design for a candelabrum-and-clock
anonymous, c. 1735 - c. 1745
Twisted candelabra incorporating figures were extremely popular during the rococo period. The famous Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier produced a number of designs for them. Here the artist has concentrated on the positioning of the figures: Father Time, a woman with a water jug, and a winged woman. Only one candle-branch is shown, but doubtless two were intended.
