Design for the Decoration of a Plate

anonymous, c. 1875 - c. 1885

This design was made for the Vieillard manufactory in Bordeaux, where faience was produced that was modern in both form and decoration. The asymmetrical decoration of peonies shows the influence of the art of Japan, which was one of the principal sources of inspiration for French Art Nouveau.
