Gunlock (Percussion)

Percussieslot met messing huis en ijzeren mechaniek, haan en bevestigingsbout. Het moet in de lengte tegen de rechterzijde van de slotverhevenheid gemonteerd worden en heeft daarvoor een verticale bevestigingsbout en een nok onderop. De hamer wordt met een ketting, die naar voren door een oog loopt, naar beneden getrokken, terwijl een nok aan de linkerzijde van het slot hem naar links duwt; eenmaal beneden wordt de hamer door een veer weer naar rechts geduwd; dit is om te voorkomen dat de hamer met geweld wordt teruggeslagen door de vlam uit het zundgat als afgevuurd wordt.

Entry

Percussion lock with brass box and iron mechanism, cock and fastening bolt.

It is designed to be mounted lengthwise to the right-hand side of the vent patch, for which it has a vertical fastening bolt and a notch underneath. The hammer is pulled down with a chain which goes through a ring forward, while a notch on the left side of the lock pushes the hammer to the left; at the lowest position it is pulled back to the right by a spring: this is to avoid the hammer from being pushed back violently by the flame that comes out of the vent when the gun is fired.

These locks were brought back from Russia by Julius Constantijn Rijk (1787-1854) in 1834. A priming tube, originally accompanying these models,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 706. is now lost.
