Wooden model of a composite anchor that can be taken apart.

The shank and arms are made out of six layers, held together with brass hoops. The model has no anchor stock.

The model was made after an observation by Gerard Moritz Roentgen (1795-1852) of such an anchor in Sheerness in 1819.1HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 12/03/1819 N21. According to Obreen the difficulties of forging large pieces of iron led to the assembly of several parts; the various parts are indicated by the model.2J.M.
