18-cm Segment Shell in a Wooden Box

Een halve overlangs doormidden gezaagde puntvormige 18 cm granaat, in een houten kist. De granaat is 45 cm lang en heeft een kaliber van 176 mm. Hij heeft twee ringen bronzen nokken voor een getrokken loop met drie trekkende velden. De neus heeft de vorm van een flessehals met een buisgat. De granaat is hol: de springlading is omgeven door twaalf ijzeren segmentringen, die met lood aaneengekit zijn. De ingezette bodem is tevens met loden ringen vastgemaakt.

Entry

One half of a pointed 18-cm shell, cut lengthwise, in a wooden box.

The shell is 45 cm long and has a 176 mm calibre. It has studs for a rifled barrel with three grooves. The nose has the shape of a bottleneck and has a fuse hole. The shell is hollow and the compartment for the powder charge is surrounded by twelve iron segment rings, which are welded together with lead. The bottom is also secured with lead rings.

This shell has not been found in British literature on ammunition.
