Explanatory note

  • Vuursteensloten voor geschut werden na 1810 bij de Nederlandse Marine ingevoerd; in Amerika werden ze vanaf 1782 gebruikt en bij de Britse Royal Navy in 1790 officiëel ingevoerd. Dit soort modellen werd naar Luik gestuurd om bij het gieten van het kanon de slotverhevenheid de juiste afmetingen te geven.

Wooden dummy breech of a 36-pounder gun.

The gunlock (flintlock) that this model demonstrated, is missing.

Flintlocks for cannon were introduced in the Dutch Navy after 1810; they had been used in the United States since 1782 and were officially adopted by the British Navy in 1790. Models of this kind were sent to Liège, in order to pass on the correct measurements of the vent patch before casting the cannon.
