Model of a Capstan with a Winch

Model van een kaapstander op een houten vloer. Het is een spil voor acht windbomen met een lier in de kop en vier pallen in de hiel tegen het teruglopen. Om de lier te gebruiken wordt de kop met de kleine messing dekplaat vastgekoppeld aan de onbewegelijke koning, die met een vierkante hiel in de verstevigde vloer is gezet. De trommel is voorzien van een getand wiel onder de kop, dat aangedreven wordt door twee zwengels met rondsels in de kop; de trommel draait dus onder de kop. De zwengels kunnen ontkoppeld worden met wiggen. Om de spil met windbomen te gebruiken, wordt de dekplaat verwijderd en de kop aan de trommel vastgemaakt met twee keggen, zodat kop en trommel samen om de koning draaien. De trommel heeft zes klampen. Schaal 1:10 (schatting).

Construction model of a capstan, mounted on a base representing a wooden deck.

The capstan is for eight bars with a winch in the head and four pawls in the heel to prevent it from turning back. To engage the winch, the head is fixed to the brass spindle, which is set in the reinforced deck with a square heel by means of the small brass cover on top. The barrel has a toothed wheel beneath the head, which is driven by two cranks with pinions inside the head; the barrel thus turns beneath the head. The cranks can be disengaged with pegs. To use the capstan with the bars, the brass cover is removed and the head fixed to the barrel with two pegs, enabling head and barrel to turn around the spindle together. The barrel has six whelps.

The model is almost identical to model NG-MC-200, which suggests it may also be based on a design by Cornelis Jan Glavimans (1796-1857).
