Explanatory note

  • In 1819 maakte een model van een heitoestel met schaar deel uit van een collectie technische voorwerpen en modellen, die door Gerard Moritz Roentgen uit Groot-Brittannië naar de Rijkswerf te Rotterdam werd gestuurd. Vandaar werden de stukken aan de Marinemodellenkamer in Den Haag overgedragen. J.C. Rijk nam gedurende zijn reis met de korvet Pallas naar Noord-Amerika in 1825 ook van dergelijke heistellingen waar.

Entry

Demonstration model of a simple piledriver, almost identical to model NG-MC-46 but painted black. The rammer is grasped by a claw and hoisted to the top with a winch with a single gear, the cord running over a single pulley at the top, where it is automatically released and dropped.

In 1819 a model of a piledriver with pincer was part of a shipment of technical objects and models sent by Gerard Moritz Roentgen (1795-1852) from the United Kingdom to the Rotterdam Navy dockyard,2HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 19/10/1819 N22. from whence they were transferred to the Navy Model Room in The Hague.

Piledrivers of this type were also observed by Julius Constantijn Rijk (1787-1854) on his voyage to the United States in the sloop of war Pallas in 1825.3J.C. Rijk, Generaal Rapport Z.M. Pallas, s.l. 1825, manuscript with 6 appendices in HSM, inv. no. NII (03144), Bijlage 1, p. 159.
