Model of a Three-Masted Ship

Getuigd waterlijn- en constructiemodel van een driemaster. De romp heeft geen huid en bestaat slechts uit de voornaamste inhouten. Het model heeft vier niveau's: onderdek, hoofddek, bovendek (halfdek en bak), en bovencampanje, geen van alle gesloten. Achterschip met gewrongen spiegel, hol wulf, geen details van hek behalve de constructie, geen zijgalerijen. De zeeg loopt een weinig op naar beiden uiteinden, twee barkhouten en één reehout. Het model demonstreert voornamelijk het driemasttuig zonder zeilen, voorzien van staand en lopend want; vermeldenswaard zijn de doorlopende grote en bezaansrust, en de bezaansroede.

Rigged wooden waterline model of a three-masted ship.

The hull is not planked and shows only the main timbers. It has four levels: lower deck, main deck, upper decks (quarterdeck and forecastle) and a poop, none of them are planked. The stern has a round tuck and a hollow counter. But for the timbers, no details of the taffrail are provided, nor are the quarter galleries indicated. The sheer rises a little towards both ends. The model has two wales and a sheer rail.

The model mainly demonstrates the rigging on three masts without sails, in which the standing and running rigging are operational. Notable features are the main and mizzen channels, which are continuous, and the lateen yard to the mizzen.

Obreen mentions only one model no. 657,1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 657. but two models have been found (see model NG-MC-657-2 for the other). According to Obreen this model demonstrates the rigging of 1780.
