Model of a Paddle Shaft Support

Model van een deel van de scheepshuid met een buitendraagtoestel voor de rader-as. Het kussenblok voor de as rust op een platform, dat door drie knieën wordt ondersteund. De knieën zijn bedekt met een gladde halfcirkelvormige plaat, vermoedelijk als bescherming tegen spattend water. Twee driehoekige zijpanelen beschermen het blok tegen spattend water. Het kussenblok bestaat uit een slede, kegge en de asvoering. Schaal 1:10 (afgeleid).

Model of part of the ship’s planking with the support for the paddle shaft, mounted on a backboard.

The pillow block for the shaft rests on a platform, which is supported by three knees. The knees are covered with a smooth semi-circular plate, probably as a cover against spray. Two triangular side panels also protect the block from spray. The pillow block consists of a gib and key and an axle lining.

This kind of support was necessary for cycloidal wheels, where the shaft does not continue to the outer side of the box to rest on the paddle beam.
