People on the street watching an attack of Japanese bombers

Robert Capa (mentioned on object), 1938-04-29

A combat photographer, Robert Capa was one of the first to penetrate the front lines of battle and thus succeeded in portraying war from the inside. One year after having established a reputation with his photographs of the Spanish Civil War, Capa accompanied the Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens and his cameraman John Fernhout on a film expedition to China, then at war with Japan.
