Maquette for the Amsterdam Municipal Orphanage

Aldo van Eyck, 1989

In 1958-1960 the city of Amsterdam built a new home for orphans, designed by Aldo van Eyck. This maquette shows how the architecture was tailored to the needs of the children who lived and played together there: playhouses with red walls, a kitchen for pancakes, a paddling pool and fairytale lanterns. The orderly grid provided structure for living and playing
