Explanatory note

  • Deze mal, mal NG-MC-1054-B (genummerd 8 en 9), samen met een derde genummerd 7, die verloren is, werden gebruikt om de slagpijpjes op te meten. De afmetingen van deze mallen, en ander gereedschap, werden vastgelegd in 1847 en in 1849 werden deze bepalingen gedrukt.

Entry

Two gauges for percussion priming tubes (NG-MC-1054-A and NG-MC-1054-B.

The first (NG-MC-1054-A) is a flat rectangular piece of iron with seven cutaways and two holes for different measurements, and a handle. The cutaways and holes are numbered 1 to 6. The second gauge (NG-MC-1054-B) is a conical octagonal body with pins at the ends; the ends of the conical body are numbered 8 and 9.

These two gauges, together with a third labelled ‘7’, which is lost, were used to measure the dimensions of percussion priming tubes. Their dimensions were standardized in 1847 and first printed in 1849.1HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Res. 27/2/1847 N69 (pl. IV), Res. 28/11/1849 N75.
