anonymous, c. 1600 - c. 1624

The decorations on this bowl feature a woman with a fan alternating with a woman with a child at her breast. Could the latter figure be a wet nurse? In Imperial China, as in Europe, it was customary for the children of the upper classes to be suckled by a woman other than their mother.

    Grote, diepe kom van porselein met een geschulpte rand, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw. De buitenwand is bedekt met uitgespaarde bloemranken in blauw, onderbroken door zes geschulpte cartouches met een vrouw met een waaier of met een kind in een landschap. Op de bodem in een medaillon een landschap met een tijger op een rots. Om het medaillon een band met gestileerde bladmotieven. De binnenwand is afwisselend verdeeld in brede en smalle vakken. De brede vakken met bloeiende planten (bloem of fruit), de smalle vakken met strikken. Kraakporselein in blauw-wit.
