The decoration of this ornamental cupboard refers to the architecture of Greek and Roman antiquity. It is detailed like a building. The corners and the central stile are formed as pilasters crowned by human bodies, known as herms. The owner of such a piece of furniture demonstrated his interest in classical culture, considered to be the fountainhead of western civilization.
