Stovepipe Necklace

Bakker, Gijs, 1967

For this necklace, Gijs Bakker used the aluminium corners of a stovepipe, which was highly innovative at the time. It inspired many other jewellery designers. The lightness of aluminium makes it ideal for larger necklaces. The chemical treatment not only changed the colour of the aluminium, but also gave it a protective layer.
