unknown, in or before 1926

When education inspector A.A. Caljé returned to the Netherlands from Suriname, his wife Trijntje was presented with a jewelry box as a keepsake. The drawings, found in the booklet on the back, relate to an expedition to Suriname’s interior to map the Gonini River basin. These illustrations showcase a sacred site of the Maroons and various objects belonging to the local Wayana people.
