John Selwyn Brooke Lloyd and Joseph Luns (right)

Ed van der Elsken, 1958 - c. 1970

In 1958 Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain paid a state visit to the Netherlands. Her entourage included her Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, here seen conversing with his Dutch counterpart Joseph Luns. Van der Elsken added: ‘Do you know?’ ‘Of course, since he has been ....’ What exactly are the gentlemen talking about? Luns had been minister for years, so, yes, of course he knew everyone.
