Chequered Fabric Jacket

Denise Vandervelde-Borgeaud, c. 1935

This jacket was bought at Maison Borgeaud in Brussels, where Germaine Urtebise worked as première vendeuse (saleswoman with her own circle of clients whom she personally advised) until she married in 1932. The jacket can be dated on the basis of a photograph (also on view) that was taken automatically when her husband hit a bull’s eye at a shooting gallery at the 1935 World Fair in Brussels.
