Ice stick

anonymous, c. 1795 - c. 1800

Nowadays, an ‘ice stick’ is associated with a winter sport, similar to curling, in which a smooth disc with a stem is slid as far as possible across an icy surface. Formerly, sticks with a metal tip were used as an aid for walking on ice. The two little silver skates on a chain most likely refer to this function.

    Getorste ijsstok van gekleurd esdoorn met een ivoren ring en een glad handvat van buxus. Een handvat met vier ingelegde zilveren platen, voorzien van een zilveren ketting met zilveren schaatsen. De bolvormige zilveren knop is door middel van een gladde band met gegraveerde punten, aan de stok bevestigd. De punt is van getorst koper of messing.
